Privatization has been a challenging issue in the last decades. privatization of schools like other subjects has been debated among education policy makers, economists, sociologists, politicians and government atuhorities. During the past years, Iran’s private schools have been considerably increased and gaining a growing reputation among families. After the new law of introducing the private schools by Ministry of Education from 1990 the number of private schools have increased and families have been allowed more choices for education of their children. what are the theoretical rationale and socio-economic philosophy of schools privatization? How much should the government get involved in this issue? How much privatization help and resolve schools problems? To whom are the school doors open? What factors have attracted families to welcom private schools? Whether private schools are able to provide the kind of education which is required for living in the global economy? In order to answer these questions, a historical-analytical approach has been used. In this relation, three schools of thought have been briefly studied here as the main causes of establishing private schools, namely; liberal theory, social justice and conflict theory. After that the history and causes of schools privatization in Iran were discussed.
